3 Editing Goals

You will set some goals for the editing unit. Take a moment to determine three goals that you'd like to make that you can complete by the end of the editing unit. What are these three goals? Why have you chosen them?

- I would like to learn how to use Premier Pro effectively - know where everything is, and do everything efficiently. I want to be able to do this so I can edit quickly

- I would like to learn how long each clip should be, and how to make sure my video isn't too fast paced, and confusing. I think this is important for the overall result of he video.

- I want to learn how to create aesthetically pleasing videos, and create videos that flow well, and make sense. I think this is important so that my video looks good and flows well, and doesn't look shoved together.

How To Craft a Resume

What are three key points from this video on how to craft your resume?  Why are they important?

- Short, and one page maximum

--> Include your GPA, volunteer experiences, sports clubs, extracurriculars, etc

This is important to show that you're committed and devoted.

- Awards you've achieved in school

This is important to show that you can go above and beyond, and you'll be a good employee.

- You don't need to have a job prior to applying- You can list informal jobs that you've done for others!

You need to show off your experiences, and prove that you can do good work- even if you aren't getting paid!

3 Things I've Learned So Far

What are three key things that you learned in these units on the following topics:

Set Safety/Etiquette

- Wear closed toed shoes

- No baggy clothing

- Always arrive EARLY - not on time

Career Readiness

- Get experience early

- Everyone starts as a PA

- 4 C's

- Get letters of recommendation from your first job - add them up together over time

Digital Citizenship

- Cyberbullying has real effects

- Children being on social media can stunt their mental growth

- Social media impacts how people view themselves

Copyright

- Granted to anyone who has an original work

- ^ Must be in a tangible form

- There are still ways you can use copyrighted work - fair use

How can you begin using this going forward?  Why are they important to know?

I now understand copyright laws, and I understand what fair use is. These are all important to know, because everything you do in the industry depends on your knowledge- such as, don't make offensive jokes, and always show up 15 minutes early. These things are important because they could cost you a job if you mess them up.

Fair Use

Explain the concept of fair use in your own words? How do you think you can you apply fair use to you work that you create in this class?

Fair use only applies when you're using content in certain instances: schoolwork and education, news reporting, criticizing or commenting, and comedy or parody. You can only use a small amount of the work, you have to add new meaning to the work, and you have to rework the piece. You also can't profit off of someone else's work. As a sign of respect, it's a good idea to credit someone, even after completing al these steps. I can apply fair use in this class for music, by checking who owns it, getting permission to use it, giving credit to the creator, buying it (if necessary), and using it responsibly.

Music And Copyright On YouTube

How are music and copyright used on Youtube?  How can you properly use a song in your video?

When you sing or even hum a song on YouTube, you could still receive a copyright claim. That is because not only is the melody copyrighted- the lyrics are too. To use a song in your video you'll need a music license. Sometimes, these could use specific limitations. You should seek legal advice for any licensing agreements. There are also 3rd party services that allow you to purchase music, and free audios and sound effects to use in the YouTube audio library.

Screen Time

HOW MUCH SCREEN TIME IS TOO MUCH?

I think that as soon as you don't have enough motivation to focus on school and your work, you're using your screen too much. That time is usually 3+ hours. I usually only use social media to message my friends. I notice that when I start scrolling, I lose motivation very quickly, and I can't focus on work anymore. So, I limit my social media usage to 2 hours each day by setting a limit on my phone, and I allow myself to use non-social media apps for as long as I'd like, because I find that those apps don't personally affect me like the social medias do. I think that (like many mental health disorders and issues,) as soon as something starts having an effect on your daily life, it's become bad. So, I think that it depends on the person, but I think 3 hours is well over enough time on social media.

Is The Internet Making People Mean?

Do you feel the internet is making people meaner? What might be some examples of this in our current world? Why do you feel this way?

yes. I think the internet is definitely making people meaner. I think it's so easy to be mean on the internet. People can say whatever they want without any consequences, under anonymity. There are harsh beauty standards, and they're impossible to achieve. These standards carry over to the real world, and people get judged for how they look and act, if it's different from what people are seeing online.

Social Media Ages

What age do you think is appropriate to start social media for kids? What are the advantages and/or risks to that age? Why do you feel this way?

I think that 14-15 is an appropriate age to get onto social media for the first time. Nowadays, there's societal pressure and peer pressure, pushing kids to get online, so we will never truly push the number up to 14-15. But, that's when kids can realize the potential risks and dangers of being online, and have critical thinking skills. Some advantages to only allowing 14-15 year olds, is that they'll think critically and be able to assess what might be good or bad to post. It can be a bit hard though, because at that age kids want to make friends, and get closer to their peers, and social media makes that easier. I think it would be understandable during a lockdown. But, because Covid isn't that big of an issue anymore, and all schools have kid back in person, I don't think it's necessary. Just talk to your peers at school. I feel this way, because I was a kid who got social media early, and I know how bad it can get. I don't think any child should have to go through that.

Career Readiness Skills

What are career readiness skills? Give three examples of what you feel are effective employability skills that you think could help you get a good job. Why are they important?

Communication, creativity, and being punctual are 3 important skills that could help you get a job. Communication is necessary for your team. You have to let people know what's happening so there's no confusion and everything goes as planned. If you're good at communicating, your employer will grow to reply on you and trust you, so they'll probably hire you again. Creativity is also important when working. being able to come up with ideas and solutions to problems could help you get a job. Being punctual is probably the most important thing when you have a job. Your employer has to trust you in order to hire you gain. When you're consistently on time, your boss will start to gain trust in you, and know that you're reliable. This is significantly important.

Why Is Safety Important?

Now that you've completed the set safety and etiquette lecture, why is it so important? What parts of it do you think will be difficult to follow? What parts would you like to learn more about?

Now that we've completed the safety and etiquette lecture, I know that it's very important to follow safety rules so that nobody gets injured or dies. I think the hardest thing to do for me, would be etiquette. I think I would have a hard time making sure I don't say anything bad- I just wouldn't talk at all. I would be too scared to ask a silly question and annoy somebody. I think I'd like to learn more about how to think of all the different ways something could go wrong, so that I'm aware of all the different scenarios, and how to prepare fo every single one.

3 Important Set Etiquette Rules

What are three key points this article makes on etiquette on set?

1. Copy that

It's important to always confirm that you heard an order. It's even better to say copy, and repeat the command back to them.

2. Gear

Do not touch anything that you weren't instructed to! You could badly mess things up

3. Jokes

Pranks and jokes have their time and place on the set, but be careful who you tell them to. You also have to remember to not tell potentially offensive jokes.

Safety Video

What are 3 different points this article makes about safety on set? Why are they important?

First of all, it's important to look into any potential hazards that are on a site you want to film at. You need to take this step you can be aware of what problems and safety issues might arise, and you can bring the necessary items to help alert people, and have the right items in your first aid kit. Next, everyone has to know the potential hazards. This is crucial because people know what they're getting themselves into. Lastly, keeping the set clean and organized is important, because trash and unnecessarily tangled wires around walkways make it easy to trip, fall, and injure yourself.

Vertical video

Why is vertical video a bad idea? Have you taken one? Why?

A vertical video isn't a good idea, because it's small on large screens, and it's only accessible to view in the proper orientation on your phone. But because we're going to be screening our vlogs on the large projector, the video should fill the entire screen. I've taken vertical videos on my phone, but only to view and share on my phone. Whenever I'm filming videos on my camera, I rarely take vertical videos. The only reason I would is because I'd want to share and view the video on my phone. But that's rarely the case.

Why Are Movies So Magical?

Why are movies so magical?  Why are they special to you?:

I think movies are magical, because you can create anything you imagine. Not only are the possibilities endless, but they take you to another world. You forget about your own life, and you're fully submerged in a story, and that's special to me.  I think that it's special to forget about your own problems and be distracted from your life, and focus on something else.
